Matt Sucich writes songs mostly with a pen and sings them, always, with his mouth. His last name is pronounced Sue.Sitch and his bio has started off with that sentence for almost 10 years. A new record is slated for release in 2023.
The latest LP, Don't Be so Hard on Yourself, features performances from long-time collaborators, friends, and bandmates (including a special appearance from Adam Duritz of Counting Crows) and puts lyrics front-and-center in a mostly hushed production. From the vivid imagery of opener, “Make Peace" to the personal vignettes of “New Normal", Dave Holmes of Esquire magazine, says Don't Be So Hard On Yourself "feels like a good, honest talk with a close friend after a tough year."
Prior to Don't Be So Hard On Yourself, Matt's 2019 LP Thousand Dollar Dinners was well received up until the world shut down. It garnered some nice quotes from reputable online magazines. Here's one now:
“On Thousand Dollar Dinners, Sucich finds himself at his most authentic & honest, & his absolute best” - No Depression
On the road Matt Sucich has most recently toured with Kathleen Edwards and Counting Crows. Matt has also performed at Willie Nelson’s Heartbreaker Banquet in Luck, TX, Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN, and Newport Folk Festival in Newport, RI. It’s possible you’ve heard Matt Sucich on the radio, including NYC's WFUV, WXPN in Philadelphia, and Nashville’s Lightning 100. Or maybe Matt’s 2016 single “Montauk,” a favorite of the ever mysterious Spotify algorithm, came up on your weekly playlist...or maybe not. Either way you’re here now, so thanks.
Son of a southern preacher, Stuart was raised in the hymns of the church. Luckily his father and mother, albeit religious, also loved all kinds of music and shared it consistently. After playing his first gig at 15 years old in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Stuart continued to form bands, write songs, perform and tour over the following decade. Since moving up to Columbia, PA from Nashville, TN, he’s taken more of a role behind a wok than a stage but his passion for music has never been lost. Continuing to do his best to be an advocate and activist for southern music and food.
